Must-Have Tools for Beginners
A typical fondant tool set has 10-12 tools to help you create amazing designs. If you’re just starting out, these 4 tools are the most essential, and you can even find simple alternatives around your house:
1. Knife Tool: Use it to gently press lines into the fondant, but not for cutting.
Alternative: A thin piece of cardboard with a straight edge.

2. Ball Tool: Ideal for creating round indentations, like eye sockets.
Alternative: A pin with a ball at the end.

3. Scallop Tool:
Perfect for creating scales on fish tails or smiling mouths.
Alternative: Cut a straw in half lengthwise.

4. Dresden Tool:
Used for shaping fine details like eyebrows, or to give your fondant figures realistic hairlines
Alternative: A toothpick.

As you become more skilled, you’ll discover even more ways to use these same tools for more complex projects. Don’t worry if you don’t have a special kit yet, just use what you have on hand to get started!
